Nearly 4 Times More Spent On Health Insurance Costs By US Physicians Compared To Their Canadian Counterparts
April 18th, 2012
U.S. physicians spend nearly $61,000 more than their Canadian counterparts each year on administrative expenses related to health insurance, according to a new study by researchers at Cornell University and the University of Toronto. The study, published in the August issue of the journal Health Affairs, found that per-physician costs in the U.S. averaged $82,975 annually, while Ontario-based physicians averaged $22,205 – primarily because Canada’s single-payer health care system is simpler. Canadian physicians follow a single set of rules, but U.S. doctors grapple with different sets of regulations, procedures and forms mandated by each health insurance plan or payer. Full Post..

March 27th, 2012
The safety record of the modern maritime shipping industry has improved dramatically, but the majority of losses are still caused by human error, according to a report by Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty.
Allianz noted that marine transport is one of the “safest means of passenger transport overall,” with shipping losses of 1 ship per 670 per year in 2009.
Internationally, the world fleet comprises more than 100,000 ships that transport over 8.4 billion tones of cargo each year,” stated the report, Safety and Shipping 1912-2012: From Titanic to Costa Concordia, which was prepared in conjunction with Cardiff University.

Americans’ Income Gains Eroded By Rising Health Costs
March 13th, 2012
Fast-rising health costs have eaten nearly all the income gains made by a median-income American family of four over the past decade, leaving them with just $95 per month in extra income, after accounting for taxes and price increases, according to a new RAND Corporation study. Had health care costs risen only as fast as the cost of other goods and services in the United States from 1999 to 2009, the same family would have an additional $545 per month to spend in 2009, according to findings published in the September edition of the journal Health Affairs. “Accelerating health care costs are a primary reason that the so many American families feel like they are just treading water financially,” said David Auerbach, the study’s lead author and an economist at the RAND Corporation, a nonprofit research organization. Getting Around in Taxis
February 26th, 2012
The disability discrimination act 1995 introduced new regulations to stop discrimination against disabled passengers this led to local authorities releasing tough bylaws to in force the adjustments. Taxi base operators and cabs now have to facilitate the carriage of guide dogs/working dogs, at no extra expense when required to complete the task by a member of the public. If a cab or taxi base operator declines you because of your impairment take note of the drivers plate number and report it to taxi licensing, licensing has actively taken a strong stance against this.
Section 1 of the Impairment Discrimination Act specifies impairment as A bodily or psychological impairment which has a considerable long-term negative effect on a persons capability to perform normal day to day activities.
A-Z -road maps are crucial when picking up passengers who may be deaf, deafened or now have talk impairment.
