Norton Wins Britain’s Got Biking Talent Award

January 1st, 2010

Tony Haywood was awarded the Britain’s Got Biking Talent award with his restored motorcycle, a Norton NRS that was restored over a four-year period. The award was presented to Tony by Darren Gough, an English cricket legend at the Carole Nash International Motorcycle and Scooter Show.

Tony’s restored Norton won the first place prize after a restoration project that was four years in the making and had a price tag of £25,000. The project involved far-reaching research and a laborious search for needed parts that involved the help of the boss of Norton Motors. A celebrity panel, after six months of debate, and 20,000 votes cast determined Tony Haywood’s Norton to be the winner of the award at the United Kingdom’s largest bike and scooter show. This award was given to Tony at the show on Thursday, November 26th. In addition to having his restored Norton motorcycle professionally photographed and featured in the Carole Nash 2010 calendar which is given without charge to over 100,000 motorcycle riders, Tony was awarded a VIP trip to a MotoGP race with Pole Position. This trip package includes airline travel, accommodations, an invitation to the opening night celebration, a paddock pass, and grandstand seating at the race. This award is fitting for a project that began back in February of 2005 when Tony requested that motorcycle specialist Spondon Engineering build him a recreation of a 1991 JPS Norton frame. After this, Tony went to motorcycle shows and museums to take pictures of remaining original Norton bikes; then enlisted the help of ex-riders and engineers to make sure he built an exact replica.
